September 24th – 29th, 2018 – Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons
This fall, join us for an exploration of two National Parks with American West Photographer Michael Phaling.
In Yellowstone, experience the 3,468 acres of the worlds 1st National Park and home to the largest concentration of active geysers and hot springs in the world. The Park’s High plateau’s, craggy mountain peaks, deep canyons, alpine lakes, and vast forests will be our inspriation during daily excursions. Along the way, we will experience the wildlife sanctuary that is Yellowstone, home to herds of 30,000 elk, bison, mule deer, bighorn sheep, grizzly bears, moose, beaver, eagles, osprey and more.
Exploring the Grand Teton National Park, we will capture fall Aspen color against the mighty Grand Tetons along the Snake River and the Tetons reflections in Jenny Lake. We will reinvigorate ourselves at the great old cowboy town of Jackson in Jackson Hole, seeking out the best dining spots after a long day of photography.
Mid-September is the perfect time to enjoy these popular locations with beer tourists. We will get off the beaten path to discover new viewpoints.

The majority of the workshop stresses field work, with daily feedback for each individual, as well as daily assignments. Both technical and creative topics will be covered in depth, and a basic Light room presentation will be completed, as well as an introduction to printmaking. Each student will present several photographs at the end of the workshop for a group critique.
Workshop philosophy and group size
This trip will be limited to 10 photographers. The objective of Leica Akademie is to celebrate photography of all kinds through real world shooting experiences that help you discover your vision and point of view. We believe that people learn best in small groups, outside of the classroom, where content is the center of attention and casual conversations can often bring the biggest revelations.
Who should take this workshop?
This workshop is designed for photographers interested in all aspects of landscape photography. Photographers of all experience levels are welcome, however fundamental understanding of basic camera operations, including shutter speeds, aperture, and ISO, is expected.
Use of Leica equipment is not required and both digital and film may be used, however the majority of the technical aspects shall be oriented towards digital capture. Leica gear will be available for use during the week.
This journey starts at noon,September 24th, 2018 and concludes at noon September 29, 2018.
Accommodations, Dining and Flights
Home base for our daily adventures will be the Holiday Inn, 315 West Yellowstone, Montana. We will try different restaurants each evening and then kick back, relax, talk: shop ” or developed images at the days end. All meals are included in your workshop fee. Flights to Yellowstone airport (15 minutes from our hotel) can be found through Delta from Salt Lake City. Flights are also available direct to Bozeman International Airport, 90 miles from West Yellowstone…from all areas of the US.
Spouse or Partner Rate:
We have a spouse, partner or friend rate of $350 that allows you to bring a companion along for the trip. Guests are invited to join us for group meals and the slideshow concluding the trip.
