Join legendary music photographer  Neal Preston for a one-day Masterclass at the Leica Gallery Boston on April 27th, 2019.

Strictly limited to 12 students, this is an exclusive and rare opportunity to experience a full day of lecture, conversation and a portfolio review with one of the most respected photographers in the history of the music business. His career in photography, which started in high school and continues to the present, has spanned 5 decades. Through his body of work Preston has made a significant contribution to the pop culture history of multiple generations. His archive stands as one of the music industry’s most elite photographic collections.

Preston will speak freely- and humorously- about his career, telling stories about working with Led Zeppelin, Queen, the Who, and countless other musical icons. Additionally, Preston will share valuable tips about the business end of shooting rock stars. As one of the music business’s most prolific and knowledgeable photographers Preston draws upon a lifetime of experiences few can match.

This program is scheduled to coincide with the exhibition and release of Preston’s latest book, Exhilarated ad Exhausted, which chronicles some of music’s most iconic moments.

Neal Preston was, and still is, is one of the lucky few allowed inside, behind the velvet rope, touring with superstars and capturing the entire experience on film. His body of work spans almost four decades, and his photographs document many of the music industry’s most important moments.

He has worked closely with rock royalty such as Led Zeppelin, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Sly Stone, Queen, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Madonna, and countless other luminaries.

Although Preston is best known in rock circles as Led Zeppelin’s U.S. tour photographer in the mid-1970’s, his rock-and-roll travels also included touring Russia with Billy Joel, Europe and Japan with Bruce Springsteen, China with Wham! , South Africa with Whitney Houston, and South America with Queen. Preston was one of the official photographers for the “Live Aid” concert at London’s Wembley Stadium and the official tour photographer for the legendary “Conspiracy of Hope” tour, a 5 week world trek with Springsteen and the E-Street Band, Sting, Peter Gabriel, and Tracy Chapman. He has also directed various music projects, including a live performance video for Stevie Nicks and a documentary on Alice Cooper. He documented Michael Jackson from his early days in the Jackson 5 to his solo tours around the world.

Preston’s skill at capturing live performance even extends to athletics: he has shot six Olympic games, heavyweight title fights, the World Series, NBA and NFL playoff games, and World Cup soccer matches.

Preston’s latest book, Exhilarated and Exhausted is a complete retrospective of an incredible career spanning almost 50 years. Produced in collaboration with Neal, with unrestricted access to his legendary archive-considered one of music’s most extensive and significant photography collections. A who’s who of rock royalty, this stunning book of over 300 photographs is a breathtaking visual feast and fascinating memoir.
