This trip is ideal for both the long time fan of Leica and those discovering the brand for the first time. Regardless what your photographic level is, Leica has the perfect camera for you to use on this Discovery Tour through Bavaria.
From day one, you will be fully immersed in photography at Leitz Park, Leica’s international headquarters and factory. A stroll through old Wetzlar brings you to the spot where Oskar Barnack took the world’s first 35mm photograph. Over the following days, you will continue to be inspired as our tour winds through Bavaria’s idyllic medieval villages, majestic castles, and even a Benedictine monastery.
There is no better way to learn Leica, than the Leica Akademie and no better place than Germany! You can focus on the fun of photography as the travel, meals and hotel arrangements within Germany are taken.

Tom Brichta has been the Leica Camera Northern California Sales Manager for the past 20 years, but truly found his “Dream Postion” when he was appointed to Leica’s North American Akademie as an instructor. Tom not only brings his knowledge of Leica product and philosophy to the Akademie, but he is also an accomplished Fine Art Photographer.
Tom is known for his infectious sense of humor and easy going manner, endearing him to all those that attend his workshops. Over the last 20 years, Tom has had one man shows in galleries in California, and has run his own series of workshops all over the US. and Europe. He is always working on his next photographic project, because for him photography is all about “Capturing the Beauty of Our Earth, One Moment at a Time.

Transfer from Frankfurt to Wetzlar, check into hotel

Monday, September 11th: Wetzlar
Transfer from hotel to Leitz Park
Museum and factory tour
Photo-tour in the historic city of Wetzlar
Return to hotel – time for review of photos
Departure for dinner
Dinner Burg Greifenstein (short tour of the Burg and bell museum)
Tuesday, September 12th: Wetzlar – Wuerzburg – Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Transfer to Wuerzburg, the northernmost city of the Romantic Road.
Visit the beautiful Residence Palace and have some time for individual activities.
Continue to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and enjoy a guided tour (approx. 1,5 h).
Afternoon at leisure
Overnight in Rothenburg.
Wednesday, September 13th: Excursion to Nuremberg
Drive to Nuremberg in the morning and meet your local guide for an approx. 2h walking tour.
Afterwards leisure time before you return to Rothenburg in the afternoon.
Thursday, September 14th: Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Fuessen
Travel along the Romantic Road.
Stops in picturesque medieval cities such as Dinkelsbuehl and Noerdlingen.
Arrival in Fuessen – your base for the next days – in the early afternoon.
Friday, September 15th: Excursion to Neuschwanstein & Wieskirche
In the morning you’ll visit castle Neuschwanstein built by Ludwig II. This is one of the most
popular of all the palaces and castles in Europe and in a beautiful setting.
Visit the Wieskirche, a magnificent pilgrimage church.
Return to Fuessen for a walk in the city with beautiful panorama of the Alps.
Overnight in Fuessen.
Saturday, September 16th: Munich
Enjoy a full day excursion to Munich. Your local guide will await you for a 3 h city tour.
Rest of the day time at leisure.
Return to Fuessen in the evening.
Sunday, September 17th: Excursion to Oberammergau and Ettal
Depart for today’s excursion after breakfast.
First stop will be in Oberammergau to visit the world-famous Passion Play village which is also
well known for the lovely painted houses.
After some time at leisure, continue to Ettal to see the Benedictine Abbey.
Visit castle Linderhof, also built by Ludwig II
Return to Fuessen in the late afternoon, overnight at your hotel.
Monday, September 18th: Fuessen – Lake Constance – Black Forest
Leave Fuessen and continue to Lake Constance with beautiful motives for taking pictures.
Cross the landscape of the Black Forest and travel to Triberg, in the heart of the Black Forest.
Have time on your own and continue to your hotel for overnight stay.
Tuesday, September 19th: Black Forest – Baden-Baden – Heidelberg
After breakfast drive to Baden-Baden, the luxury health resort in the Black Forest.
Leave Baden-Baden and continue to Heidelberg, Germany’s favorite destination for visitors
During a guided tour you will see Heidelberg Castle and the historic town center with a large
variety of historic buildings.
Afternoon at leisure.
Overnight stay in Heidelberg.
Wednesday, September 20th: Frankfurt – return flight
Private coach transfer to Frankfurt airport and flight back to the USA.

Tour in modern coach: Wetzlar – Rothenburg – Fuessen – Black Forest – Heidelberg – Frankfurt
